About Bass Pro
The company was founded by John Morris. Mr. Morris had gained experience selling bait and worms out of the back of his father's liquor store. The store, located in Springfield, Missouri, was en route to a popular fishing spot in Branson, Missouri. Those on the way to the lake were enamored by the bait they purchased.
This leads to the company officially being started in 1971. A few years later, they started mailing out catalogs across the country enabling consumers to purchase their merchandise. The company spawned a separate wholesaling unit in 1975 because of its popularity called American Rod and Gun.
In 1977, they again took things to a new level by partnering with the Tracker Marine Group. Each one of their stores had a showroom to sell the Bass Tracker Boat, which was a boat motor and trailer package that was all ready to go.
Today, the company operates dozens of retail stores. They have expanded out of the United States and up into Canada. Some of the Bass Pro Shops locations are known under a different brand, Outdoor World.
