About Amazon
It was founded in 1994 in Seattle, Washington and is still headquartered there today. Founder Jeff Bezos is also still the Chairman, President, and CEO of the company.
Rumor has it that Bezos picked the name of Amazon from perusing a dictionary. He felt the name matched what he'd been hoping his new business would reflect. He felt the Amazon river being the biggest in the world would give him the impetus to make the company the biggest of its kind in the world.
In the beginning his focus was on selling books, something that wasn't yet being done on a mass scale online. It took a while but Amazon.com finally turned a profit in 2001. From there on it continued to expand adding just about every kind of product and item available. Not only does Amazon.com sell its own items, it allows for others to sell in the market place or to become affiliates. These affiliates do promotion and selling for the Amazon products and in turn get a percentage of the profit.
Amazon has long been concerned with electronics and other consumer goods. Many people have been surprised at their latest venture known as Amazon Fresh. This service involves having fresh groceries delivered to a customer's doorstep. This is a good way for customers to discover goods offered by restaurants and shops that are local to them, especially if they have Amazon grocery coupons to use.

Payment Methods
Amazon accepts all major credit cards for payment and Amazon gift cards, which can be used for all or part of your order.
Another way to pay is with their own Amazon Rewards Visa card. Offered through Chase Bank, those who apply successfully can get $30 off of their order instantly, as well as 3% cash-back when shopping on Amazon.com. Lower cash-back amounts are offered when shopping at other places with the card.
Shipping Options
Because Amazon relies on third party sellers as well as their own products, shipping options and costs can vary. In general however there will be a slower economy option (or free super saver on select items) which can take over a week. You can they pay extra for faster options.
If you subscribe to Amazon Prime (which charges a monthly fee) you can get free next day delivery on many items, which may work out cheaper if you are a regular customer.
Return Policy
Individual Amazon merchants may run their own return policies, however Amazon's global policy is to permit returns on any items that arrive in error, or are damaged and defective. The majority of sellers will also allow you to return items for a replacement or refund (less return shipping costs) if you made the wrong decision (doesn't fit, don't like the color etc).
